Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone’s New Year’s Eve was fun! Personally, after a few COVID scares my parents and I rang in the new year alone on our couch. Definitely not as exciting as most years but it was still a fun time. It’s so weird to me that 2022 is already here and it’s the start of another year. I know a lot of people have very mixed reactions when a new year rolls around. I know a lot of people who absolutely dread the new year because it signifies time passing and everyone getting older. However, I personally love the new year. For me, I like to think of going into a new year as a reset. For those who don’t already know, I love metaphysical stuff. Crystals, incense, meditation, and tarot are all so interesting to me and I would consider myself to be somewhat spiritual when it comes to certain aspects of my life. A new year to me signifies a cleansing of energies and attitudes which is always something that I always look forward to. With that being said, I want to spend this blog post talking about my new year’s resolutions, plans for the new year, and what I hope this year brings me. So without further ado, let’s get into it!

Firstly I want to discuss new years resolutions. To be completely transparent with you all, I absolutely HATE making new years resolutions. I know that I’m only speaking for myself when I say this, but I find them to be pointless and discouraging in a lot of ways. Personally, I find whenever I make a new year’s resolution, I never stick to it. The minute I accidentally break that promise to myself I get so discouraged and never want to continue with them. This can partially be because I can never stick to one thing and partially because I am way too hard on myself. I also feel like we put a lot of emphasis on the negative aspects of ourselves when we make new years resolutions. I know for me personally, there have been times where I would make a resolution just to make one and focus on all of the parts of myself that I didn’t like. And while I do believe that bettering yourself is extremely important, focusing on only the negative is not the way I want to start my new year. Now if you are someone who loves new years resolutions, don’t stop just because I said I don’t love them. This is simply my opinion on why I choose to not take them as seriously as I use to. I also want to put emphasis on the fact that resolutions can be made at any time in the year, not just on January 1st. So if a month passes and you decide you want to take up pottery as a new skill for 2022, by all means, please do!

Now after explaining to you all the reasons I hate new years resolutions, I’m here to tell you all that I did in fact make one at the start of 2021 which many (including myself) would call hypocritical in a way. However, I have made a rule for myself that none of my new year’s resolutions will be talking about myself in a bad light or focused on any negativity. Back when I used to write in a journal (before I made Spit It Out) I wrote down my one new year’s resolution. I looked at it today and felt it only fitting to share with you all what it says.

“After being put in quarantine for 5 months, I realized just how big the world is and just how little I have seen of it. In 2021 my new year’s resolution is to experience more of the world. That could mean visiting new places or even just recognizing the beauty that I’ve ignored in the places I’ve been before.”

The date of that entry was January 3rd, 2021 which is exactly a year ago today which is kind of crazy now that I think about it. But I am very happy that I can confidently say that I (for the first time in my life) lived up to my new year’s resolution. With some help from my parents, I was able to (safely because COVID is still a thing) travel to so many different places I have never been to before! From California and Arizona to more local places like Maine and even newly discovered adventures in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, I know that the experiences I have had this year will stick with me for the rest of my life and I am so grateful for every single one of them. As for resolutions this year, I think that when it comes to 2022, my goal to see more of the world is still something that reigns true. Although I had so many amazing adventures this past year, there is still so much for me to see and I am determined to make it happen.

And now that we are on the topic of 2022, lets talk about what my loose plans are for the year. For Christmas, my mom and dad got me tickets to see Wicked on Broadway in NYC for a weekend which I am so excited about. The trip was originally scheduled for this upcoming weekend but due to the rise in COVID cases in New York, we felt it best to postpone it until the springtime. With that being said, I am absolutely so excited about this. I am a huge fan of musical theater and have wanted to see a broadway show for so long now. This is going to be the first time I am seeing a big show on Broadway and spring break cannot come soon enough!

However, my mom did feel bad about having to cancel the New York trip for next weekend so instead, we are planning on doing something a little more lowkey. This morning she booked both of us a room at the North Conway Grand Hotel in New Hampshire for one night. We have two days filled with a spa treatment and shopping trips lined up and I am so excited about it. It’s going to be such a nice little girl’s trip right before I go back to school. Expect to hear all about this trip in next week’s blog post!

The last trip I’m working towards going on is a trip to Vermont. You guys know how much I love hiking and I have heard that Vermont has some of the most beautiful hikes in all of New England. Vermont is also the only New England state that I have never been to and I am dying to explore it. The details of this trip are still very very loose but my goal is to stay somewhere near Stowe or Burlington. I want a place with both mountains and a cute downtown area so if any of you know of a town to visit, tweet me or message me! I am always open to suggestions, especially when it comes to travel.

And as of right now, those are all the trips I have planned/are planning for 2022. This is probably going to be the year of cheap travel for me considering I’m so broke it hurts. But that’s also not a bad thing. Sometimes budget travel is better than splurging because you find hidden gems that you would overlook at a 5-star resort. However, it is only January and things could definitely change and I’m planning on keeping my options as open as possible. Maybe I’ll win the lottery or a contest to fly wherever I want, you never know!

An internship this summer is also a must for me. I forget if I said this in my last blog post but I officially changed my major from Journalism to Public Relations which is so exciting. However, an internship is something that is required for my major. It’s definitely scary seeing as it’s something that kind of signifies getting a big girl job, but I know that it’s going to be a positive step in the right direction for my career. Other than that, my only known plan is to focus on school and work an play the rest of the year by ear. There's only so much you can control when it comes to the future and what I've come to realize is that the more you try and plan out the unknown, the more you lose control of it.

As for Spit It Out, I have no big goals with the platform. I would love to get 50 subscribers and possibly start a redesign of the website with a bit more color involved, but as of right now I’m very happy with the state of my blog. I never thought that something as small as a website I built on Wix.com could turn into such a huge outlet for me. And while Spit It Out has only been live for three months, I want to say thank you all so much for the support I have received in 2021. I am so excited to see what the new year is going to bring! Here’s to 2022!

I hope you all have a lovely week!
